Small to Big

This year scientists at IBM have been able to actually create the smallest photograph -- of a single molecule pentacene -- using an atomic force microscope (AFM). It's actually quite amazing as you can see the hydrogens jetting off the corners of the six-carbon rings. I copy the photograph below with the other universe bookend . . . the butterfly galaxy photo courtesy of the Hubble Telescope. Can your eyes from these pixels fathom the extremes of big and small?



Naturalization ceremony

Kangkang's naturalization ceremony, which coincidentally was also on our 5th wedding anniversary: 9/9/09. The stars are aligned.

Hammer paged

Being hammer paged is the phenomenon during intern year where your pager goes off every 1 minute. While on the phone & putting in orders into the computer for one patient you are getting paged about the next, and then pages can stack up pretty quick. Having an organized system for dealing with being hammer paged is key.
