Patent-able idea?

Today, on the spur of the moment, came up with a draft of an idea for a medical device / method for helping to cure patients with Bronchopulmonary Fistula (BPF). I've gotten some good feedback on the idea already and may move forward with testing / patenting / etc. It actually felt pretty neat to turn my creative side on today, even if this doesn't result in an actual patent or my name on a device . . .
